The former Spanish president said that to understand Venezuela it is essential to “accept that the Chavismo is a political reality”, and that “any solution must be an electoral solut”

In recent weeks, the United States regime has sought to definitively separate itself from Juan Guaidó. However, in the European community there are still sectors of the extreme right that insist on supporting a path that, over and over again, failed and which was recently the subject of analysis by former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

The mistake made by the European Union (EU) in recognizing Juan Guaidó as “interim president” and disregarding the legitimate authority of Nicolás Maduro -to who, in diplomatic terms, they present their diplomatic credentials- has been classified by Zapatero as an unprecedented historical mistake and it has to become a lesson to be learned and to be corrected immediately.

Zapatero highlighted during his speech at the New Economy Forum, which was held in Spain days ago, that the seditious plan that made the EU take the path of arbitrariness, unilateralism and lack of diplomacy has definitely not worked and has proven to be a complete and utter mistake.

In this sense, he stressed that this decision to support a seditious plan, taken in January 2019 -when Guaidó proclaimed himself president in a public square without receiving any type of vote- “must be submitted to a self-critical judgment by those who promoted it”.

“This should serve as a lesson and must not be done again,” said the former Spanish president during the forum, where he also explained a series of situations on Venezuela to contextualize the reality of the Caribbean country, so that people who are uninformed can evaluate with more suspicion. what is said in the media.

Rodriguez Zapatero and Hugo Chavez

Zapatero: Chavismo is a political reality

The former spanish president said that in addition to recognizing Guaidó, the international community added other serious errors such as the application of a series of unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela that seek to pressure the departure of the Maduro government, elected in 2018.

But these actions — described Rodríguez Zapatero — the only thing that they have done is to generate the increase in the deterioration of the country and in the quality of life of Venezuelans, by imposing a total iron blockade that seeks to suffocate them in order to provoke a reaction against the Government, something that doesn’t seem to be happening but rather the reverse, the reaction seems to be against the extreme right.

“There should be no pressure to sanction and put the people of Venezuela in a very serious situation”, said Zapatero, in statements that were collected in a dispatch from Europa Press.

In this sense, he added that in order to understand Venezuela, it is essential to “accept that the Chavismo is a political reality”, and that “any solution that may occur, must be electoral, must start from that idea”.

In addition, he stressed that a “political solution” must start from the agreement between Venezuelans and thus “build a consensual democracy” and not subject to the “geostrategic interests of the great powers”.

He also expressed that the majority of Venezuelans will vote in the parliamentarians on December 6 to “open a new stage and get out of the blockade” imposed from abroad, mainly from the United States and the European Union.

In this regard, Zapatero said that during this year and a half of a sustained attack against Venezuela, the “unilateralism” of the United States and the EU, that has led to “the use of force” simply “has proven to be a disaster.”

Rodriguez Zapatero and Nicolas Maduro

The anti-democracy is the failure of the opposition

Rodríguez Zapatero also stressed that the political situation that Venezuela is currently going through is a consequence of the decision made by a part of the extremist opposition not to participate in the 2018 presidential elections.

He explained that it is from that strategy that the European Union builds its whole argument and uses it to ignore Nicolás Maduro as president and, in turn, justify the seditious plan that revolves around the imposed figure of Guaidó.

Faced with the continued failures of the opposition, the former Spanish president hopes that the parties of the democratic opposition, those that do participate in the electoral processes, continue along this path and do so, not only in these parliamentarians, but also in the presidential elections, when these take place.

“Whenever the electoral route has not been followed, the consequences have not been good for the opposition or for the country”. said Zapatero, who has participated in various sessions of dialogues and mediation to find a peaceful solution to the Venezuelan political crisis.

Rodriguez Zapatero and opposition leaders

Zapatero is convinced that the next elections will be held “with all the guarantees”, and indicated that they will be successful, as long as the Chavismo’s previous electoral victories are recognized and that “the Government is who it is”.

In addition, Zapatero stressed that in order to alleviate the political crisis, the process must be progressive and calm, without seditious or ‘out of touch with reality’ plans. “It has to be progressive, calm and not with proclamations or ‘out of touch with reality’ plans, such as believing that the Army is going to bring down governments” because “all the forecasts have been a fiasco of these radical theses”, he stressed.
